  51. JAILBIRD is an entertaining program which allows you to create 
  52. replicas of "vanity" license plates on your screen, and optionally 
  53. print them out on a printer. You can configure your plate for any of 
  54. the 50 United States. Each state includes the current state slogan. 
  55. You can configure your own colors for the on-screen display, the also 
  56. print those colors if you have a supported color printer.

  58. JAILBIRD should operate on virtually any computer system which has a 
  59. VGA monitor and card (or better) and a mouse.

  79. INSTALLATION: 
  80. -------------
  81. Installation of JAILBIRD is very easy. To install to a Hard Disk 
  82. Drive, simply create a subdirectory (i.e. C:\JAILBIRD) and copy all of 
  83. the files to that directory. To operate from a floppy disk, simply 
  84. copy all of the files to a blank floppy disk. There is no special 
  85. setup or configuration necessary.

  87. QUICK START: 
  88. ------------
  89. In order to make full use of all of JAILBIRD's features, you will need 
  90. to completely read this short documentation file. But if you want to 
  91. start using JAILBIRD quickly, simply switch to the subdirectory that 
  92. you copied the files to (or switch to the floppy drive that contains 
  93. your JAILBIRD floppy disk), type JAILBIRD and press the [ENTER] key. 
  94. The opening screen will be displayed, and pressing any key will then 
  95. start the program.

  97. At any time, you can click on the QUIT button to quit the program.

  105. PRINTING THE DOCUMENTATION:
  106. ---------------------------
  107. This documentation file is formatted for 70-characters per line, and 
  108. 60-lines per page. To print the documentation, you can simply issue 
  109. the following command from the DOS command line:
  110.  
  111.      COPY JAILBIRD.DOC PRN
  112.  
  113. The documentation file contains form-feed characters, so it can also 
  114. be printed by various printing utilities.
  115.  
  116.  
  117. THE MAIN INPUT WINDOW
  118. ---------------------
  119.  
  120. When you first start the program, you will be placed in the input 
  121. window located above the default license plate. This is where you type 
  122. in your own personalized information. The input window contains 6 
  123. fields for information. The first field is required, the last 5 are 
  124. optional.
  125.  
  126. The first field is for your state, and will accept the 2-character 
  127. abbreviation for your state.
  128.  
  129. The second field is where you type in the vanity plate text. This 
  130. field will accept 10 characters, and will be displayed in ALL CAPS 
  131. (all capitol letters).
  132.  
  133. The third field is for the year, which will be displayed in the upper 
  134. right corner of your plate. This does not have to be the current year; 
  135. you can use any year that you like. If left blank, the upper-right 
  136. corner of the plate will also be blank.
  137.  
  138. The fourth field is for the month, which will be displayed in the 
  139. upper left corner of your plate. Again, this does not have to be the 
  140. current month. If left blank, the upper-left corner of the plate will 
  141. also be blank.

  143. The fifth field can be used to add text to the upper portion of the 
  144. license plate "bracket". If this field is left blank, the upper plate 
  145. bracket will not be included on the plate.
  146.  
  147. The sixth field can be used to add text to the lower portion of the 
  148. license plate "bracket". If left blank, the lower plate bracket will 
  149. not be included on the plate.

  151. Once you have completed all 6 fields, your customized personal plate 
  152. will be displayed on the screen. Alternately, you can click on the 
  153. SHOW PLATE button at any time *AFTER* inputting the State to display 
  154. the plate. (The State is the only mandatory field).

  163. PRINTER SETUP (& COLOR SETUP)
  164. -----------------------------
  165.  
  166. To set up the system for your printer, and to customize the on-screen 
  167. colors, use your mouse to click on the PRINTER SETUP button. This will 
  168. take you to the printer/color setup screen.
  169.  
  170. This screen has 6 basic parts: PRESS SETTINGS, PRESS TYPE, MODE, PRESS 
  171. LOCATION, Custom Color Configuration, and the Press Setup Room (that's 
  172. were all the *real* action takes place.....but it's private, and only 
  173. JAILBIRD employees have access to it).
  174.  
  175. PRESS SETTINGS - This group of "levers" control most of the visual 
  176. aspects of the license plate: Landscape, Print State, Print Motto, 
  177. Shade Frames, and Use User-defined Colors. The first three are turned 
  178. on by default, and you can activate/deactivate any of the "levers" by 
  179. clicking on them.
  180.  
  181. Landscape is active by default, which causes the license plate to be 
  182. turned "sideways" when printed.
  183.  
  184. Print State is active by default, which causes the STATE to be printed 
  185. on the upper-center portion of the plate.
  186.  
  187. Print Motto is also active by default, which causes the state's motto 
  188. to be displayed on the lower-center portion of the plate.
  189.  
  190. Shade Frames is inactive by default. If you activate this option, the 
  191. bracket areas of the printed plate will be "shaded" rather than plain.
  192.  
  193. Use User-Defined Colors is also inactive by default. If you activate 
  194. this option, you can customize the on-screen colors using the color 
  195. palette at the bottom of the screen.
  196.  
  197. PRESS TYPE - This is for selecting the printer type that you have. 
  198. Simply click on the button next to the type of printer that you have.
  199.  
  200. MODE - This option will let you modify the various printing modes 
  201. available for the selected printer. As you switch from one printer 
  202. type to another, the available "mode" options will change accordingly. 
  203. You may need to experiment with this setting if you are not sure of 
  204. the printing resolution that your printer is capable of.
  205.  
  206. PRESS LOCATION - this option tells the program where to find the 
  207. License Plate "press" - this is actually the location of your printer. 
  208. The program will support printers on LPT1 and LPT2. Simply click on 
  209. the appropriate one.
  210.  
  211. CUSTOM COLOR CONFIGURATION - this is the palette where you can modify 
  212. the on-screen color selection. You can modify the PLATE COLOR, PLATE 
  213. TEXT, BRACKET COLOR, and BRACKET TEXT. Simply click on the available 
  214. colors for each item.

  222. PRESS SETUP ROOM - As stated above, this is where the *real* work on 
  223. your plate takes place. Only JAILBIRD employees are allowed in here, 
  224. and the door knob has a security device installed on it to prevent 
  225. unauthorized access to the Press Setup Room!
  226.  
  227. RETURN - Once you have finished your setup configuration, use your 
  228. mouse and click on the RETURN button to go back to the main screen.

  231. PRINT
  232. -----
  233. Clicking on the PRINT button will begin the process of "pressing" your 
  234. custom license plate. Once this process starts, you can abort it by 
  235. pressing your [ESC] key.

  238. QUIT
  239. ----
  240. At any time during the program, you can quit by clicking on the QUIT 
  241. button. This will close down the program and return you to the DOS 
  242. prompt.

  245. ABOUT
  246. -----
  247. Clicking on the ABOUT button will display a window that contains 
  248. information about the program and it's creator and publisher. To exit 
  249. the window, click on the small block in the upper-left corner of the 
  250. window.

  254. --------
  255. Clicking on the REG INFO button will display a window that contains 
  256. information on how to register your copy of JAILBIRD. To exit the 
  257. window, click on the small block in the upper-left corner of the 
  258. window.  For additional information about registering your copy of 
  259. JAILBIRD, see the file REGISTER.TXT that was included with the 
  260. program.

  263. SHOW PLATE
  264. ----------
  265. Clicking on the SHOW PLATE button will display the plate with the 
  266. current input fields. This can be done at any point *AFTER* inputting 
  267. the State.

  322. technical problems in the software are discovered within 90 days of 
  323. registration, RMH Computer Services will, at their option, either 
  324. provide a workable solution to the problem or a refund of the 
  325. registration cost. After the initial 90 days, RMH Computer Services is 
  326. only obligated to make reasonable effort to supply a revised copy of 
  327. the software.
